NYPD CEA Condemns Attack on Uniformed Police Inspector

CEA CONDEMNS UNPROVOKED ATTACK ON UNIFORMED POLICE INSPECTOR AND DEMANDS FULL PROSECUTION AND JAIL TIME FOR ATTACKER

Last night uniformed Police Inspector Andrew Capul, while policing an otherwise peaceful demonstration in Harlem, was approached from the rear by a career violent felon and violently punched in the head causing the Police Inspector serious injury.

Inspector Capul was not attacked because of the color of his skin, he was targeted because he wore a "blue" uniform. We demand District Attorney Vance prosecute the perpetrator of this attack fully and put him behind jail bars where he belongs.

There is a nationwide discussion of social issues occurring that has very loud voices speaking on all sides. Demonstration organizers have a responsibility to their community to conduct themselves peacefully and express disdain for people and words that advocate violence.

Police Officers put their lives on the line every day they come to work. We have an obligation to our family to come home to them safely. Escalating social discord to a war on cops is not just wrong it will make it more dangerous to protest. Police Officers will defend themselves and arrest any person or group that physically attacks them. It is the obligation of our prosecutors to send criminals who "Target Blue" to jail.
